+TGL is getting hot PGA stars!!

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that is too afraid to drink cough syrup.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • The TGL party is about to get started.

  • “No ranking points for you!” says OWGR.

  • Beware of cough syrup.

The Hype is real. TGL will (probably) be awesome.

Put together the best golfers in the world in a match-play style tournament in front of a huge golf simulator.

And let’s not forget the stadium. Why hadn’t anyone thought of this before?

Well, Tiger and best pal Rory did. And they’re making it come to life very soon.

We’ve been riding the TGL hype train since we got word of it. It has all the elements to being awesome, including a prime-time deal with ESPN.

At this point, they have 19 players already signed up. Eleven of which are in the top 20 of the world.

And now they’ve just announced that Keegan Bradley, Cam Young, and Sahith Theegala will join the superstar roster that will make up TGL’s first season.

The addition of Keegan Bradley (winner of the 2011 PGA Championship), Cameron Young (last year’s rookie of the year), and Sahith Theegala (29th ranked in the world) means that there are only 5 spots left for the new league’s first year.

Who’s going to take up those last five spots?

Do you think it would be possible to get Brooks in now that being part of LIV should be a non-issue?

We’ll have to wait and see.

OWGR still doesn’t like LIV

One of the biggest reasons that kept a lot of players from joining LIV, despite the humongous checks, was that they don’t receive any world ranking points on LIV events.

A big deal if you had your hopes of participating in the majors and stuff like that.

But what’s the big deal? Why can’t the OWGR simply give LIV golfers some points if other match-play tournaments in the past did earn players points?

They’ve given out several not-so-convincing reasons why they won’t recognize LIV events.

The latest reason is “because it’s not fair for other golfers playing in tournaments where they have to qualify.”

This is because LIV is more of an invitation-only league.

This isn’t an issue for Brooks Koepka or Phil Mickelson who are already eligible for all major tournaments.

It is a big issue for players like Kevin Na, Harold Varner, and Talor Gooch since they’ll have to find other ways to qualify for the majors.

Cough syrup is to blame?

Golf isn’t the first sport that comes to mind when you think of when the words performance-enhancing drugs are mentioned.

Typically you think of cycling, or some other sport where it's kind of easy to see how using something with a bit more oomph than creatine could come in handy.

Nonetheless, recently a high-level golf pro was caught using a drug in the prohibited substance list by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The PGA Tour suspended pro golfer Byeong Hun An because a substance that’s used in cough syrups in Korea, where he’s from, was detected in some routine tests.

According to the PGA Tour, Byeong Hun An cooperated fully with the institution and will be allowed to resume play in December.

I mean if you look up a picture of Byeong Hun An, it doesn’t scream
“performance-enhancing drugs.”

In any case, when in doubt, stay away from cough syrup? In all honestly, it just seems like a “rules are rules” play by the PGA, and we hope he’s feeling better!

Meme of the Day

😂😂

That’s it for today. We’ll get back to daydreaming on how amazing the TGL will be.
