In (and out) of the Genesis Invitational

The Great Genesis Invitational Conspiracy
The great return of Scottie’s putting problem
YouTuber’s get another spotlight on Prime Time
A bizarre invitational and a peculiar theory
You may have heard by now that Tiger had to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational — not due to injury — but some illness that (apparently) had him losing a lot of fluid.
Here’s the thing. Jordan Spieth got DQ’d, because he signed a scorecard that was one stroke shy of accurate.
His excuse? He needed to make an emergency trip to the restroom and left the scoring area.
Xander Schauffele said Jordan Spieth was sick, had to go the bathroom immediately after finishing yesterday, came back a minute later and was DQ’d. Suggested the Tour changes the penalty for that.

Leave it to fans and X commentators to come up with a theory as to why (reportedly) much of the field at the Genesis seemed ill.
Burgers.
Here’s how it started. According to those at the event, popular West Coast burger chain “In and Out”, had a truck onsite at the Riviera.
Safe to say In-N-Out was a hit on the course yesterday

Then, golfers got hot. Not on the stick, but on the thermometer.
🚨🥵🤢 #InjuryUpdate Patrick Cantlay (illness) woke up with a 100+ degree temperature this morning. #GenesisInvitational@NUCLRGOLF

Tiger withdrew due to illness. Spieth gets DQ’d cause nature (or something unnatural) called. Cantlay was sick, according to his coach.
Superspreader event? Well, Golf Twitter/X had another theory. Here’s Barstool’s Dan Rappaport saying what fans were thinking:
Is In-N-Out ruining the Genesis Invitational? The people are asking.

Was it the flu? Probably.
But it doesn’t help that a fast food burger joint was seen being shoved down by golfers who either didn’t finish the tourney or woke up with a (potential) meat-sweat-fever.
Here’s another X user commenting on a post from the PGA Tour about Tom Kim nearly missing his tee time:
In N Out strikes again…

Bonus: If you read the other comments, there are a ton of burger-related jokes 😂.
1st in everything…except putting (51st)
Scottie is the best golfer in the world, from tee-to-green.
But once he gets to the dance floor, it’s all two-left-feet. At least that was his condition, at The Genesis.
But hey, looks like he avoided losing too many fluids. Consolation.
That said, he did lose at least one golf ball. In a fit of frustration, he tossed his ball into the woods at the Riviera.
Here’s a hilarious fan-made video:
Here’s another Happy take:
Only one man could fix Scottie Scheffler’s putting:

Korn Ferry Pros + YouTubers = PGA Qualifier Tournament
The PGA Tour is putting on the Myrtle Beach Classic in May. They want to hype it up (obviously).
To help, they’re pulling attention to the younger golf crowd, namely from Korn Ferry players and YouTube golf influencers.
How?
An 18-hole qualifying event called, “The Q at Myrtle Beach”.
All the invited attendees (16 players in all), will have a shot to get a full sponsor’s exemption into the May PGA event.
Who’s in?
George Bryan, Grant Horvat, Peter Finch, Micah Morris, one of the Busta Jack guys (they’re making them play each other to find out who gets in), as well as a number of other fantastic players who’ve played on the Korn Ferry tour.
The PGA Tour is doing a special qualifying event for YOUTUBERS.
Genius or joke?
The Myrtle Beach Classic will have a special 16 man qualifier featuring YouTubers and a few Korn Ferry veterans. All have to be scratch or better.
My take: Genius.

Shortgame Shenanigans
Here’s a link to a photo of Tiger, right after a poor shot, that is sure to be up there with the best live-action photography.
The latest BustaJack video. These are the two scratch golfers who have to duke it out for a spot in the Q at Myrtle Beach.
Video highlights from round 4 of The Genesis Invitational. Congrats to Hydeki Matsuyama on a terrific victory!

Here’s another post from X user @PGATUOR that was just too funny not to share:
That’s what we’ve got for this Monday edition, golfer. With the weird weather, have you been able to get out to an early 2024 round?
Later gator,
