Looks like TGL is postponed for a year šŸ‘€

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that doesnā€™t know anything about stadium roof construction.

Hereā€™s what weā€™ve got for you today:

  • Rory McIlroy resigns from PGA Tour Policy Board.

  • We will have to wait longer for the TGL to start.

  • LIVā€™s free-agent season has started.

Rory resigns from PGA Tour Policy Board

For most people, being one of the best golfers in the world would typically take every single ounce of dedication and focus they can muster.

By looking at PGA Tour stats, it's easy to see how difficult it can be to stay at the top of the rankings for any period of time.

This is one of the reasons why Rory McIlroy is such an amazing talent. Heā€™s managed to stay at the top of his game for all this time and doesnā€™t seem like heā€™s slowing down.

And if being the worldā€™s number 2 wasnā€™t enough on his plate, heā€™s also a husband, father, investor, partner in the TGL, and until recently, a part of the PGA Tour Policy Board from which he recently resigned.

TL, DR; Rory says he wants to focus on everything else heā€™s got going, like the TGL.

Also, he subtly mentioned that he still wasnā€™t OKā€¦with how the PGA Tour/PFA deal was managed.

So thereā€™s that too.

A big chunk of roof falling might be is a problem for the TGL

A big portion of the roof collapsed at the TGL future purpose-built stadium in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Early statements from the TGL point the finger at an overnight power outage that caused the air-supported dome to collapse.

So the ballon that was holding up the entire structure deflated and caused a big part of the roof to fall down.

The good news is that there were no injuries reported at the site.

The bad news isā€¦the January 9th launch date of the TGL will be delayedā€¦until early 2025!!

Thankful no one got hurt, but man thatā€™s a lot of high-tech equipment to put under a seeming circus big top.

Looking for a new team? Nowā€™s the time

This is the first time that LIV will go through its free agency/team-swapping process ahead of its 2024 season.

Being in a team that ranks well can make a big difference in LIV playerā€™s bank account.

This is the reason why players donā€™t want to be left out and play as free agents since they would probably not enjoy the benefits of being part of a team.

However, this is how it gets interesting for the teams. Since these are the rules for signing new players.

  • They can sign a player who didnā€™t renew their contract with their existing team.

  • They can trade contracted players with another team.

  • They can sign an existing free agent.

  • They can sign an external player who was not a regular member of any 2023 LIV Golf team roster.

Remember a few weeks ago when Phil Mickelson mentioned that his phone had been ringing non-stop from PGA Tour players?

This is probably why.

A member of the EasyPars team got a close look of the wreckage:

Thatā€™s it for today. Weā€™ll go back to keeping our fingers crossed that the TGL can still go live sometime this year ā€” and continue to be thankful no one was injured.
