Has the mojo shifted in professional golf?
Rory scores an ace!!
GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that misses Ricky Fowler decked out in 100% orange Puma gear.
Here’s what we’ve got for you today:
Rory’s moving on and his game’s getting better
Ricky is back, too!
Great players, bad week.
Looks like Rory got his mojo back.
This season hasn’t been easy for Rory.
Not like the PGA Tour is ever easy for anyone, but with Rory being unofficially designated the PGA Tour spokesperson, he admits to being somewhat distracted from actually playing golf.
Nonetheless, he’s been hovering in the top 3, even after a tough Masters where he didn’t make the cut.
It seemed like he’s been getting his flow back after a solid 7th at the PGA Championship and an impressive 2nd place at the US Open.
But with his ace in Travelers, I think it’s safe to say Rory got his mojo back.
Also, it was the first hole-in-one of his career.
Maybe with all the PGA Tour/LIV rivalry being a thing of the past, he can finally focus on his game?
Rory finished with a solid 7th place. But who cares, he got an ace, which is arguably just as good as W.
Except for all that money you get with a win, but who’s counting?
Speaking of hole-in-ones, have you ever had the experience of hitting a great shot and not seeing it on the green?
The exhilaration of running to the dance floor, only to see you missed 5 yards off the back?
Don’t lie, is that you?
Guess who else got his mojo back
Ricky Fowler has been a fan favorite for like ever.
The guy is the brightest-clad golfer on the field and always shows up with great golf.
But he’s had a tough couple of seasons, he even toned down his wardrobe a bit.
At Travelers, this seems to have changed and looks like we got the Ricky of old.
Fowler shot the best round of his career this Saturday. He shot 60 for the day, which was good for a 10 under and getting him in shooting distance of the leaders.
Unfortunately, he couldn't manage to keep the pace on Sunday. But he still finished in 14th, which is great since he hadn’t seen a top-20 finish in quite a few appearances.
We hope this signals the comeback of Ricky.
You know who else found his mojo?
Keegan Bradley.
He's a player who we hadn’t seen in top spots in a while. So it makes it extra awesome to see him make such an incredible comeback.
It’s even more impressive because he didn’t make the cut at the US Open and hasn’t had a top-10 finish since March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
And this weekend he took home the W while fending off just about everyone since apparently, everyone had a great show up at the Travelers.
Looks like these guys may have misplaced their mojo
It’s always tough when one of the top 10 guys doesn’t make the cut a major or a designated tournament.
It must be tough to be expected to always show up with your a-game and get a top 10 finish.
But it’s what these guys have been doing for a while now. Still it’s hard to see when one of the top guys misses the cut, like what happened this week at Travelers.
Jon Rahm, Colin Morikawa, Max Homa, and Kurt Kitayama are some of the top level guys who missed the cut this weekend.
This is unusual, because these players have been remarkably consistent this season.
In particular, Jon Rahm who started out the season killing it and has been slowing down his pace as the season progressed.
He’s still number 2, but he held the number one spot for several weeks earlier this year.
Will these guys get their mojo back in time for the Open Championship? We’ll have to tune in to find out.
What are the odds for the British Open?
As we’ve learned this weekend, the odds that matchmakers make should be taken with a grain of salt.
Because anything can happen in golf. Let’s take Keegan Bradley’s win as an example.
Although I’m not big into making bets, it’s always interesting to see what are the odds coming into the final Major of the season.
So who do we have for the Open? The usual suspects.
Rahm, Scheffler, McIlroy, Koepka, and Spieth.
No surprises there. These guys are awesome and consistent. But we want to know who you have?
Who you got in the British Open? |
Even if they take a spill every now and then, the odds of them winning are always solid.
