We don’t often cover the LPGA here at EasyPars, but it’s not for a lack of respect to these ladies!

It hasn’t been an easy road, but in recent years, women’s professional golf has been making strides and reaching new heights. Nowadays, the purses are bigger, the athletes are more talented than ever, and the sport’s audience keeps on growing.

This year’s US Women’s Open marks a big milestone for the LPGA.

It’s the largest purse to date, $11 million, and the event will take place at the historic Pebble Beach course.

Women’s professional golf has come a long way and it’s super exciting to see where it will go next.

Michelle Wie West set to retire after the US Women’s Open

Michelle Wie West is a legend.

Just to give you some context about her career, she’s been a pro for almost 20 years.

She’s 33.

If you’re still asking yourself how is that possible, well she was a real teenage prodigy.

At a ridiculously young age, she proved that she could hang with the best in the league, so she did. And by doing that, played a big part in helping to grow the reach of women’s professional golf.

Even though she’s been playing significantly less in recent years. She has a strong legacy to look back on. And that’s despite the legacy, according to some, being a bit weird.

Of course the news isn’t without its trolls. Some say she’s caused negative marks on the LPGA, and others say she’s a slow player (LPGA’s Cantlay?)

Let’s just keep in mind that she’s still only 33 years old. And with her record? Downright impressive.

Wie West cites personal reasons, such as being a mother of a toddler, and long-time injuries as the reason why she’s decided to end her career at this year’s US Women’s Open.

Sergio is sitting this one out

Do you remember the year 1998?

There was no Iphone. Cell phones were mostly monochromatic and on average had only 4 lines of text. Dial-up internet was the norm. And when you finally managed to get the darn thing working, you would have to use AOL.com or AltaVista.com to not find what you were looking for. And Amazon only sold books.

Yes, 1997 was a long, long time ago. 26 years to be exact. (NOTE: Some are reporting 25 years running, from 1998.)

And that’s how long Sergio Garcia has been attending the Open Championship.

He’s had 10 top-10 finishes, made the cut 21 times, and his best finish was a 2nd place in 2007.

And he won’t be attending the Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool course this year.

At this year's qualifier in West Lancashire, he finished in a solid 6th. Unfortunately, only the top-5 qualified.

Could it be that all the LIV/PGA Tour drama got to him? Or is he in the last leg of his career? Or was this just a small slump in his game?

We don’t know for sure, but we might be seeing the end of an era at the Open Championship this year.

The odds are out for the John Deere Classic

We’re one week away from the Open Championship, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no golf to watch.

We’ve got the John Deere Classic to get our golf fix this weekend.

As you might expect, you won’t see most of the big names today. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be interesting golf at the John Deere Classic, far from it.
