We were right...and wrong about Tiger's Brand

+It's time for the Genesis Invitational!

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that hopes golf returns to its civility at The Genesis.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • Sunday Sun Day Red

  • Swings of the best players in the world are jacked up 😂

  • WM Phoenix and Genesis Invitational give golf contrast and texture

We were right about Tiger’s brand (but also wrong)

On Monday, we predicted that Tiger was launching his brand at an inopportune time.

Tensions and stakes are high, and everyone (including many PGA pros) are wondering what the next 5-10 years look like in the sport.

Nevertheless, he persisted in launching Sun Day Red.

What happened, could you not trademark Sunday Red? Nah, Tiger just loves the metaphysical nature of the number 3, I guess.

Unfortunately, the brand launched to a collective “meh” from the golf community.

How’s it going? Just read this from Golfweek.

Sometimes, you don’t make good contact with the ball.

Speaking of Tiger’s swing…

Tiger is teeing it up at The Genesis Invitational. AND his swing is looking great!

Here’s a short YT video from his practice round at the Riviera Country Club:

It’s caused no shortage of “Tiger’s Back” tweets and news articles, of which we’ll spare you. But we do want to point out something very interesting on the topics of GOATs and Drives.

Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm are two fantastic golfers — no doubt.

But if you look at their swings (particularly their driver) it’s not the smooth and buttery flow you’d expect from the top of the world leaderboard off the tee.

Here’s 4-shot snapshot of Scottie’s swing:

My man looks like Captain Jack Sparrow hitting a drive.

Here’s a quick look at Rahm’s drive swing:

While not off balance, he takes the club back to maybe 9 o’clock?

Here’s the thing (and it’s actually positive):

Play your game. Figure out your swing. Watching too much Golf Channel can (at times) add more strokes than it takes away.

From trashy to classy

Next year’s WM Phoenix Open will be different.

After so much shenanigans, the course is forced to implement changes that cut down on incidents, accidents, and arrests.

Two years ago, the biggest hijink was the 16th streaker. It was calm by comparison.

This year’s People’s Open was like an open bar + bourbon street on Mardi Gras + the end of a Manchester United and Liverpool game.

It’s interesting that we go from “open” to “invitational”, isn’t it?

E. Gator loves contrast and we think we’ll see it. Last week, it was all about the party, this week is all about golf — we hope.

When’s the best time to tune in? In our opinion 12:01 - 1:01 pm EST. You’ll see:

  • Nick Taylor, Viktor Hovland (who did not join LIV!), and Sam Burns

  • Tom Kim, Patrick Cantlay, and Jordan Spieth

  • Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods, and Gary Woodland

  • Nick Dunlap and Grayson Murray

  • Will Zalatoris, Matt Kuchar, and Sam Ryder

The first tee is about to begin, so if you’re free, tune in right now!

Meme of the Day

😂😂

That’s it for today, golf fan. We’re excited to tune into the Invitational, with some great golf and at least a few less “shoe-y’s”

Later gator,

E.
