The Masters Tournament is almost here

The Masters is one of golf’s most prestigious events of the year. And everyone is excited — all eyes on Augusta.

The invitation only event makes sure that only the crème de la crème makes it throughs its qualification criteria.

Speaking of the Masters, all qualifying players are allowed to play (regardless of affiliation).

And this year, 18 out of a field of about 85 will be LIV Golf players. 

That’s right, LIV is making a splash at this year’s Masters Tournament

A good reminder of the pedigree of players that moved over to LIV. Also, a good reminder of why the PGA Tour is so upset about it.

Worth mentioning, it seems that Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta Country Club, wasn’t exactly thrilled to have the LIV golfers take part in the Masters.

He didn’t mention LIV directly, but to paraphrase, his statement was something along the lines of “I’m not thrilled, but the rules are the rules so we invited them.”

Appears Ridley is channeling the other Fred (Couples) from a few weeks back.

Here’s why it’s actually good for the game: It’s the first major tournament where PGA Tour and LIV Golf pros go at it.

All I can say is that I can’t wait to see the fireworks. Some amazing golf is guaranteed to go down. I also hope it’s a great reunion of players, with no bad blood.

Speaking of “splash” 👀

Sometimes, you just can’t hold it in any longer.

And for many of us at the golf course, we just find a suitable spot and release. Pony up to any old tree or bush and let nature takes it’s course.

But most of us aren’t followed by a camera crew when playing.

Sergio Garcia probably picked the worst time and spot to relieve himself during this past weekend’s LIV Golf outing at Tucson.

Yes. It seems he got caught on camera taking a whizz while his playing partner, Scott Vincent, is teeing up.

If only he had gone to the next shrub a couple of feet away, he wouldn’t have been caught on camera.

But he didn’t, so Sergio’s whizz is taking up almost as much attention as the fact that Danny Lee took home the W at the most recent LIV Golf tournament.

And with the W at Tucson, Danny Lee took home a cool $4 million in prize money.

Lee must be a happy camper since it’s his first win since 2015 and also the biggest single paycheck in his career.

And, since LIV is a team-based structure, Garcia’s team (Fireballs GC) ended up on top in Tucson. For Sergio, guess that’s…a relief.

Rory gives up the long ball?

Just like everything else in this world, golf has made a lot of progress in recent years.

Players are getting better in their performances. And the equipment that they use has been a big part of it.

According to the USGA, this must change or at least be regulated. That’s why they have proposed a rule that will require competition organizers to use a rolled-back golf ball for elite competitors.

As expected, most players aren’t happy or supportive of this new proposal.

But Rory McIlroy isn’t like most players. And he for one, is fully onboard with it.

He admits that this change will definitely favor the more technically proficient and well rounded players, like himself.

But then things took a questionable turn.

You see, Rory says he’ll play the 90’s, low-tech ball—regardless of whether or not the change is adopted.

Essentially, this is playing golf with a hand tied behind his back. And some don’t think it’ll ever happen.
