Sergio wanted Ryder Cup bad ($700k bad)

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that would definitely pay £700,000 to play in the Ryder Cup.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • DP World Tour says NO to Sergio Garcia.

  • JT gets ready for the Ryder Cup.

  • Rory is feeling good about Team Europe.

Thanks, but no thanks. DP World Tour won’t allow Sergio Garcia to play in the 2023 Ryder Cup

Sergio: “I’ll give you (approx) $866k USD to play in the Ryder Cup.

DP World Tour: “No.”

According to Jon Rahm, it’s a really bad idea to not include his good pal Sergio Garcia in Team Europe’s Ryder Cup team.

Rahm even went on to say that he would give Garcia the call even if he was missing a limb or two.

This is not Jon being kind to his long-time friend.

Sergio Garcia would be the player in all of Team Europe with the most Ryder Cup experience and some amazing performances under his belt.

But since Garcia moved to LIV, he’s no longer a registered DP World Tour member. Which means he is not eligible to play in the Ryder Cup.

Garcia went so far as to offer to pay all of the fines and a bit extra to the DP World Tour in order to be eligible, but they said no.

I guess offering £700,000 means that he really wants to play in the Ryder Cup.

This will be the first time in a long, long time that Sergio Garcia won’t be a part of Team Europe.

And the general consensus from the rest of the team is that he will be missed.

JT tunes up for the Ryder Cup at Fortinet

JT hasn’t had the best 2023 season.

But that doesn’t mean he’s not awesome.

After all, he’s still very much JT.

And that’s why he got the captain’s call to be a part of Team USA for the Ryder Cup.

In an attempt to get up to speed, Justin Thomas participated in the Fortinet Championship where he did pretty well.

He didn’t get the win, but we definitely saw glimpses of the JT of old that remind us all why Zach Johnson gave him the call.

JT ended up with fifth place at Fortinet. Considering that he hasn't played since the Wyndham Championship in August, it seems like he is in good form.

All that’s left to see is what IT we'll see at the Ryder Cup in a couple of weeks.

Rory is confident in Team Europe

I mean, of course, he is.

Team Europe’s team for the 2023 Ryder Cup is stacked.

3 out of the top-5 players for the season, including the FedEx Cup winner, are part of the team.

And most importantly, they’ve all been killing it at the tail end of the season. So you could definitely argue that they have momentum on their side.

"I think you've got a nice blend of experience and youth in the team," said Rory McIlroy in a recent interview.

As for McIlroy, he’s been doing great. He’s still strong at the number 2 ranking.

However, he’s got a nagging back injury that, according to him, has impacted his performance in his last couple of outings.

Without a doubt, this Ryder Cup seems to be one of the most evenly matched in recent history.

Can’t wait to see how it all goes down next Friday, the 22nd.
