TGL is getting real — But Rahm's out 👀

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that can’t wait for January 9th to come along.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • Getting seriously hyped about the TGL.

  • And the best Halloween costume goes to…

  • “It was the BEST call ever!”

Official deets on the TGL gameplay

We’ve all been exposed to the hype around Tiger and Rory’s new virtual golf league.

Every A-list investor possible is throwing money at them. The renders for the soon-to-be-completed stadium look amazing.

And they’ve already secured a prime-time deal with ESPN.

But, up to now, we knew nothing about the gameplay.

Check out our full story on EasyPars here:

Here’s the TL;DR version.

  • Each team sends 3 players to the SoFi stadium in Palm Beach FL.

  • The first 9 holes are played with a three-man alternate shot system called “Triples”.

  • The second round is called “Singles”, where players go head-to-head in one-on-one matches for the next six holes.

  • There are 15 holes played (9 Triples + 6 Singles). Which should help the entire game fit within the two-hour broadcast window.

  • Teams earn points by winning holes. All 15 holes are always played to determine the total number of points, even if a team is already leading by an unrecoverable margin.

  • Here’s where the even cooler part begins. The arena has different surfaces that mimic the golf course. There will be fairways, tees, roughs, and bunkers.

  • Then they switch to a real short-game area, which can be adjusted using 189 actuators and jacks that can simulate just about any real-world surface.

  • If there's a tie after 15 holes, teams compete in a closest-to-the-pin challenge. The first team to win two of these challenges wins the match.

  • Four out of six teams will advance to the semi-finals, leading to a best-of-three championship series.

And Justin Thomas has just confirmed that he’s joined the “Atlanta Drive”, and is now part of the first 24 to play in the TGL.

The action starts January 9th.

Breaking news: Rahm pulls out of TGL!!! Is he going to LIV? Here’s the full story on Easypars.com:

Golf pros celebrate Halloween

Some pro golfers just love Halloween.

And thanks to social media, we get to see how they spend the holiday with their family.

Get ready for some awwww moments.

But the 2023 best Halloween costume goes to the Hadwins.

Remember when back in June when Nick Taylor won the RBC Canadian Open with an epic 72-foot Eagle putt? And when his close pro-golfer friend Adam Hadwin went to celebrate with him, was promptly tackled by a security guy?

One of the most memorable moments of 2023 if you ask me.

Check out the costumes, ring any bells?

The Hadwins take the best golf costume of the year award.

Colin Morikawa got the call

Collin Morikawa got THE call from Alex Ohanian, co-owner of the L.A. Golf Club, to join the L.A. franchise of the new TGL league by legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

And boy, was he ecstatic! Morikawa said, “I got my Ryder Cup call this year, but this...I think this tops it almost.”

I mean, the TGL is brand new and hasn’t even played a single game.

On the other hand, the Ryder Cup is one of the most prestigious events in all of golf with a long history of amazing matches.

Well, we can assume that there’s a financial component to it. Money won’t be an issue for the TGL and each player will surely be compensated fairly.

Also, it will give each player a huge platform with which to grow their brand.

And we need to keep in mind that this year wasn’t so great for Team USA.

Early losses, internal drama, and that cringe-worthy 9-and-7 defeat for Koepka and Scheffler.

Add rumors of team tensions and negotiations gone awry, and it paints a picture.

Will big-money side gigs like TGL overshadow traditional tournaments?

We’ll have to wait and see.

Meme of the Day

😂😂

That’s all we’ve got for today. We’ll go back to planning next year’s Halloween costume.

Later gator,

E.
