Torrential downpours, Niemann's salty win, and Wyndham's record

+Rahm's team starts strong over at LIV

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that thinks they shoulda finished the Pro-Am yesterday.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • Golf fans forced to watch LIV instead of Pebble Beach

  • Wyndham gives us a conspiracy

  • Rahm’s thankful for team-based golf

LIV got a lucky break

Sunday morning, Pebble Beach players woke up to a veritable hurricane. Here’s a quick look at conditions:

And when PGA pros don’t golf, apparently they get on Twitter/X. Oddly, enough — they wanted to play, lol.

Here’s a quick summary, from the tour’s official account:

Our favorite:

Here’s where LIV benefited

Given the conditions, the last day of the ProAm was initially delayed and now cancelled entirely. As a golf fan, you know it’s all about Thursday to Sunday. When that balance is disrupted, we all still want to watch good golf.

And many switched on YouTube to see how Rahm was doing on LIV, and they got a treat.

Kyle Porter, a sports reporter and writer of the “Normal Sport” golf email tuned into LIV. He was met with this initial sight 😂

But as PGA viewers tuned into LIV for their Sunday fix, they were met with fantastic golf. Rahm was at the top of the leaderboard, with Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann.

Serg and Niemann ended up in a 4-hole playoff to decide the winner (a contest that went on after dark, even winning over Porter).

In the end, Niemann slammed the door on Garcia with a nighttime birdie to clench the victory. He immediately used the enhanced spotlight (which we assume he knew was there due to Rahm’s first start and the Pebble delay) to voice his (and LIV’s) plight of not being in majors.

Ok, now let’s go back in time to Saturday at the ProAm.

Wyndham ties course record (and admits entertaining LIV deal)

Wyndham Clark played a phenomenal round on Saturday, tying the lowest round for Pebble Beach (shooting a 60).

Oh, was he ever-so-close to a 59. Unfortunately…he shorted it. Here’s the putt:

As a consolation, Wyndham did tie the record and is now the winner, since the final day of play is cancelled.

The arguably bigger news? He admitted to entertaining an offer from LIV.

It was reported he was offered to join LIV, potentially even to hop on Rahm’s team, Legion XIII. Guess it was true, but the offer wasn’t good enough?

If you go to any golf publication, you’ll see he said, “I chose my legacy over LIV…”

But if you go to golf twitter/x, you’ll see the other biggest line from Wyndham is, “…at least for this season.”

That’s right, Clark did his best Bruno Mars impersonation and said he’s gonna 🎵leave the door open🎵 to grab that bag 💰.

Rahm does well, Legion XIII does better

Rahm had a solid first outing at Mayakoba, even tying the lead for a bit, before tying for 2nd.

That said, Rahm did benefit from the team dynamics. Legion XIII came out swinging with a team tournament score of -24 — winning in the team competition.

Tyrell Hatton played well, and the team rookie, Caleb Surrat, finished the final round with 5 straight birdies.

Will Rahm and Legion XIII bring more fans to LIV? We’ll see.
