On the Wast-ed Open and Foul-mouthed golfers

+Some of the wildest videos from Scotsdale

GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that thinks Pro Golf’s problems came out this past week in Las Vegas and WM Phoenix Open.

Here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • The People’s Open gets (too?) feisty

  • Hot take on hot mics

  • Tiger’s launching his brand into a buzzsaw (in our humble opinion)

Get ready, this one’s full of opinions you may share.

Wast-ed Management

Ok, so every year people get wild at TPC Scottsdale. After all, they don’t call the 16th a party hole for nothing.

But this year things are different.

In fact, it got so bad the course limited alcohol sales! Just take a look at these attendees trying to walk a slightly wonky walkway:

There are dozens of videos and images showing near-to-downright-debauchery (a couple of which we share below). Golf Monthly put out a poll on X/Twitter. Those who weren’t at the event overwhelmingly agree.

Things got outta hand.

The worst part?

Golf fans and pros had several anger-fueled interactions. Zach Johnson pulled a full-on Shooter McGavin and told fans to “shut up”. (Notice who the tweet’s from 😂)

Here’s another pro telling people to let the pros do their job and hit golf shots (language warning):

Eevvverrrryyyone knows that the sport of golf is a mess right now. We have a lot of thoughts here, but this week comes down to one (in our opinion) shockingly easy observation —

Disgruntled fans + tense pros + beer = what happened at the WM Open.

Now, a bit more about those tense pros.

A gentleman’s sport full of foul mouths

Look, your boy Easy Gator has little gators running around. Many of you likely have young children or grandchildren.

And you probably want to impart a love of the game to them. Good on you.

That said, in a world of “mic’d up” golfers, it’s harder and harder to have Saturday or Sunday’s round on in the background, at least for us here at Easy Pars.

Both PGA and LIV events have the best players in the world, notably Scheffler and Rahm.

BOTH of these potential heroes to the next generation dropped so many f-bombs live on camera, it’s kind of crazy.

Yes, golf is a test of mental strength — from World #1 to a 25 handicapper.

Did Palmer, Nicholas, and Woods drop their share of choice words for a course, shot, or other golfer?

My magic 8 ball says “almost certain”.

But in the world of “hot mics” it’s something to think about. Especially those who are using the words to complain about course conditions, which every other player dealt with alongside you.

That said, it’d be hard not to curse if your putt went into the bunker like one of Scottie’s did:

Ok, so tensions are high. Rahm’s feeling the pressure of the entire LIV league. Scottie had the 3-peat in his eyes (and saw it fade away).

The PGA is a mess, trying to fend off takeover by the PIF.

It’s the state of our sport. As one Easy Pars reader recently commented — “Golf as we know it is over.”

That may be true, but we don’t think “golf is over”, far from it. In the end, we feel this sport has always had a questionable past, from being outlawed to causing literal death.

Great vid here from a Scotsman:

Sunday Red should read the room

Again, we’re experiencing some choppy seas in our favorite sport. But Tiger and Taylormade seem to be poised to charge ahead with Sunday Red.

Two days ago, Tiger’s X account posted this:

Today’s the day, and we’ll likely have the news in Thursday’s issue. But, as we’ve alluded, it’s a bit ill-timed with all the negatives in the sport. All in our opinion, of course.

Meme of the Day

😂😂

That’s it for today, golfer. Here’s to brighter golf tomorrows and good times🍻.

Just don’t go overboard. And watch your mouth.

Later gator,

E.
