Y'all won't believe what DP stands for đ
GM. This is Easy Pars. The golf newsletter that finally learned what the âDPâ in DP World Tour means.
Hereâs what weâve got for you today:
Take some time to show some love for golfâs unsung heroes.
Does anyone really know what the DP Tour is?
4 months in and still no news.
Without them, golf canât be played.
Today weâre taking some time to appreciate the hard and vital work that greenkeepers do, day in and day out, to keep our courses in top shape.
In case you didnât know, September 12th was national âThank a Greenkeeperâ day.
Greenkeepers often donât get the credit that they deserve, but without their hard work, itâs literally impossible to play golf.
The folks over at Cookie Jar Golf (highly recommended podcast) put together a documentary that goes over all the hard work put into getting a course ready for a major.
That documentary focuses on the specifics of this yearâs Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
Here are the main takeaways from the video in case you donât get the chance to watch it:
Greenkeepers wake up painfully early to get the greens ready.
They put up with the elements to keep the greens in playing shape.
Keeping grass in golfing shape takes up a huge amount of work and preparation that we werenât aware of.
After watching the 34-minute documentary weâve come to realize that âThank a Greenkeeperâ day should be every day.
DP stands for Dubai Ports
Today we learned that the DP in âDP World Tourâ stands for Dubai Ports, one of the world's largest logistics conglomerates.
Also, we learned how the DP World Tour works.
To start off, the DP World Tour is the golf entity that was formerly known as the European Tour back in the day.
But when DP became the major sponsor, and given that they have an everywhere-except-the-US scope, they decided to add the word âWorldâ and thatâs how you end up with the name DP World Tour.
The schedule works around what they call swings, which can be seen as mini-seasons.
They have a swing in each region. These include Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and South Africa.
Once the swings are done, they move on to playoffs and a closing swing.
Now you know why it's called the DP World Tour.
Also worth mentioning, theyâve recently revamped their entire schedule so that thereâs minimum overlap with the PGA Tour.

This means that when we donât have PGA Tour events going on weâll probably be able to watch something on the DP World Tour.
Between the PGA Tour, LIV, and the DP World Tour we can rest assured that we can watch high-level golf year-round.
The US Senate also wants to know whatâs going on with the PIF/PGA Tour deal
It's been four months since the biggest news in pro sports went public.
And we still donât know anything about whatâs going to happen with the PGA Tour, LIV, or the DP World Tour (which is also in there somewhere).
Weâve been asking ourselves âwhat will this mean for pro-golf?â for so long that we have even started to doubt whether the whole deal will actually happen, or if it was just a clever way for the leagues to stop spending so much in legal fees.
It turns out that weâre not the only ones who want to know whatâs going on.
The US Congress also wants to know whatâs going to happen with golf next season.
Senator Blumenthal subpoenaed the PIF so that they would provide more transparency in the whole process.
The Saudiâs Public Investment Fund cannot have it both ways: if it wants to engage with the US commercially, it must be subject to US law & oversight.
Today I am issuing a subpoena for documents related to PIF's takeover of American golf & other US investments.

The PIF hasnât shown up to testify for Congress thus far.
As a matter of fact, this isnât the first subpoena thrown their way. The first one was a few months ago. Right after the deal was announced.
Will there be any official communications anytime soon?
Not to be pessimistic, but I wonât be holding my breath.
